Tartaglia was a planet located in the Tartaglia system,[2] a part of the Hollan sector[1] in the New Territories portion of[2] the Mid Rim. Hyperlanes linked it to the Asamin system in the Strabin sector, the Nicandra system in the sector of the same name, and the Vectinia system of the Hewett sector.[1]
By the time of the Galactic Civil War,[3] Tartaglia was the site of the Nova Vaults of Kakitai bel Toyouin, which supposedly were buried under the planet's surface and were filled with unimaginable treasures. However, the vaults resisted all attempts at detection, and eventually millions of treasure hunters had perished on Tartaglia. Over time, the planet's crust began to crumble and came to feature many deep holes.[2] At one point between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, the military forces of the Imperial Remnant triumphed at Tartaglia over those of the New Republic, inside the borders of which the world was situated at the time.[1]
Behind the scenes
The planet Tartaglia was introduced in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry,[2] who built upon the mention of the Fusion Clouds of Tartaglia featured in Ben Burtt's 2001 book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide.[4] Wallace further noted that he had developed the planet's Nova Vaults of Kakitai bel Toyouin,[5] as well as the description of the world as featuring deep holes,[2] as an homage to the Money Pit of Oak Island, which had fascinated him during his childhood.[5] The Essential Atlas placed Tartaglia in grid square M-7.[2]
