The Asamin system was a Mid Rim star system located in the Strabin sector. A notable spice production point, it was where the Human Zayl Braith was born to a wealthy family of merchants. Braith eventually became a smuggler operating in the star system and elsewhere, and, when she later worked as part of a criminal syndicate, she ultimately left the organization after it began working against the interests of her former partners in the Asamin system. A decade later, the system was part of the New Republic.
Description
The Asamin system was a part of the Strabin sector[1] in the New Territories portion of[2] the Mid Rim.[1] It lay on the hyperlane known as the Essien Run[3] and was linked via hyperspace routes to the Hollan sector's Tartaglia system, a star system in the Homon sector, and another system in[4] the Mezeg sector.[5] The Asamin system was a notable spice production site.[2]
History
The smuggler Zayl Braith was born in the Asamin system.
The female Human Zayl Braith hailed from the Asamin system, where she was born to an affluent family of merchants who operated along the Essien Run, primarily in the Asamin system. At a relatively early age, Braith began associating with smugglers, and she eventually worked for Captain Thi Sawrtin on numerous smuggling runs in the Asamin system.[3]
On one run in the Noonian sector[3] of the Outer Rim Territories,[4] however, Sawrtin and Braith were captured by authorities of the Galactic Empire, who killed the captain and imprisoned Braith. The latter ultimately escaped imprisonment and subsequently began smuggling for a criminal syndicate led by the Sullustan gangster Tiron Til.[3] At some point by 2 ABY,[6] a group of Trandoshan smugglers attempted to establish a monopoly in the Asamin system's spice trade, and, after Til made several deals with the group, Braith, out of loyalty she felt to her former partners, left Til's syndicate.[3] The Asamin system was part of the New Republic between 12 ABY and 13 ABY.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Asamin system was first mentioned in Alliance Intelligence Reports, a 1995 sourcebook for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas subsequently placed it in grid square M-7.[2]
