"When I joined the Order I left my family on Talravin, as all Padawans do. My family is still there, the last that I heard."
―Bastila Shan[4]

Talravin was a Core Worlds celestial body located on the Hydian Way hyperlane. It was the homeworld of the Human Jedi Knight Bastila Shan. More than three centuries later, it was the site of a casino. A Rodian thief once broke into its vault but accidentally locked himself inside. At some point generations prior to that time, a starship also crashlanded on Talravin, in the process creating a large canyon.

Description

Talravin was a terrestrial celestial body[2] located in the Talravin system, a part of the Arrowhead, or the Slice portion of the Core Worlds. By 3705 BBY, Talravin was situated between the Fedalle and Ruul systems on the hyperspace route known as the Brentaal–Denon Route. At some point following 3694 BBY, the hyperlane was integrated into the galaxy-spanning Hydian Way super-hyperroute.[1]

History

Talravin was the homeworld of Bastila Shan.

Talravin was the homeworld of Bastila Shan.

The Force-sensitive Human Bastila Shan was born on Talravin[5] in the family of the Human Helena Shan and her husband, who was a treasure hunter. At a young age, Bastila spent a lot of time following her father on starships as part of treasure hunts. Ultimately, however, she was given up for training with the Jedi Order.[4] By 3959 BBY, Talravin was a part of the "civilized" galaxy, or the areas that had been widely explored by the Galactic Republic.[1] Three years later,[6] Bastila, by then a Jedi Knight, told about her origin on Talravin to the Jedi trainee Revan, by which time the information she had received indicated that her family still resided there. In reality, however, both of her parents had traveled to the planet Tatooine, where Bastila's father had perished.[4]

A starship at one point crashlanded on Talravin, in the process creating an expansive canyon. Over subsequent generations, looters scavenged the ship's wreckage, although a durasteel case that contained what would later be highly valued antiquities remained buried underground.[2]

Around 3643 BBY,[7] an individual affiliated with one of the sides in the ongoing struggle between the Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire discovered a black box that pointed to the true nature of the canyon Talravin. The individual then sent their companion to investigate the remains of the crashed vessel, and the latter ultimately uncovered the case with the antiquities.[2] Around the same time,[7] a Rodian thief broke into a high-security vault of a casino but accidentally locked himself inside. He then sent a holotransmission to an individual affiliated with either the Republic or the Sith Empire, successfully petitioning them to rescue him in exchange for a portion of the stolen valuables.[3]

Talravin was the site of a casino[3] as well as a large canyon that had at one point been created by the crashlanding of a starship.[2]

Behind the scenes

Talravin was listed in a tongue-in-cheek in-universe phonebook depicted in Star Wars Insider 88.

Talravin was listed in a tongue-in-cheek in-universe phonebook depicted in Star Wars Insider 88.

Talravin was first mentioned in the 2003 BioWare video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.[4] In the "Comlink" department of[8] the June 13, 2006[9] eighty-eighth issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine, a tongue-in-cheek in-universe phonebook was depicted. In it, an entry for an individual from Talravin,[8] with which the Star Wars character Bastila Shan is associated,[4] was listed above those for persons from Thesme and Ophideraan,[8] which are in turn the homeworlds of the characters Silya Shessaun and Tanith Shire, respectively[10][11]—and whose first names are indeed partially visible in the aforementioned image.[8]

The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Talravin system, and therefore Talravin itself, in grid square M-10. In the book, the map of the Core Worlds places the Talravin system on the Hydian Way hyperspace route, while the map of the Jedi Civil War instead places it on the route known as the Commenor Run. This article assumes the latter placement is erroneous.[1] Talravin was mentioned in two Treasure Hunting Crew Skill missions of the 2011 BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, though the information regarding the missions' outcome was later removed from the game.[2][3]
