R2-D2 in Soul Calibur 4?

Umm... I thought I'd put this. http://i37.tinypic.com/14njpzq.jpg 202.69.180.113 01:38, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Personality

I know that droids aren't supposed to have personalities, but I think an exception can *certainly* be made with R2-D2, and I'm wondering why he doesn't have a personality section?129.107.81.12 21:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Well their are many specialized droid parts called personality chips.

But whether R2-D2 has a personality chip or if he just some how addapeted or/and gained pesonality. But also R2-D2 has been through ALOT of eperiance and action, in such a short amount of time. and yes tens of years is short.

Owner: "What's your name, little fellow?"
R2-D2: "THAT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. IN ANY CASE, YOUR FACIAL FEATURE SET SUGGESTS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO RETAIN MY NAME FOR MORE THAN A NANOSECOND. IT IS EVIDENT THAT YOU HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO REPEAT SOUNDS YOU HAVE HEARD AND THAT YOU UNDERSTAND NEITHER THE WORDS YOU HEAR NOR THE ONES THAT EMERGE FROM YOUR MOUTH."

any idea about artoo's personality? --MuanN 18:07, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

  • It's my understanding that, provided they are given minimal or no memory wipes, most higher-level 'droids are capable of developing their own "personalities." This, of course, depends upon the sophistication of their vibro-brains coupled with years of experience. From what I've read, Artoo is never given a memory wipe in all of his long life. He has, therefore, not only developed his own personality but eccentricities akin to senility as he got on in years. Threepio is also a prime example of this electronic "evolution" of the individual 'droid. In Episode IV, he tells Luke, "I'm not much more than an interpreter and not very good at telling stories... well, not at making them interesting, anyway." By Episode VI, however, it's Threepio who sums up the experiences of the Rebel Aliance (particularly Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, etc) in a dramatic retelling that not only involved narrative... but sound effects! It is arguable, then, that C-3PO had become prolific at story telling, the more experience he himself gained, over the years.--99.29.194.51 20:02, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Seriously, is there a canonical source for R2D2's top speed?

How fast is R2D2? What evidence is available? Sorry, I screwed up Wookipedia Etiquette before, but I am genuinely interested in this question. Hell, I'll even take anecdotal evidence AGuyWhoSeriouslyWantsToKnowIfHeCanBeatR2D2inaDecathlon 01:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)AGuyWhoSeriouslyWantsToKnowIfHeCanBeatR2D2inaDecathlon

  • If I were to go by observation alone, Astromechs don't seem to top off at any faster than, say, the walking pace of a human. Note that, while others are running for safety, Artoo is kind of left to catch up. If I were to guess, based on my limited mechanical knowledge, I'd say his wheel servos are tipped more toward torque and power than speed. Think of an electric wheel chair or similar... not really built for speed, but for moving around otherwise "dead weight." Artoo is a little canister of processors, sensors, gears, cogs, servos, framework and various gadgets. His two, or three sets of wheels have to move that all around with little effort. So, if Wikipedia is to be trusted, the average human walks 4 to 6 miles-per-hour. I'd have to say this is around, or close to, Artoo's top speed. --99.29.194.51 20:15, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
    • It would depend on whether you were talking about flying or rolling. Remember, too, that R2 showed a tremendous burst of ground speed when he was overloaded one time in one of the original trilogy films. GethralkinHyperwave 12:10, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

Blowing up the Droid Control Ship in Episode I

Are we sure Anakin blew up the Trade Federation Ship? Because I always thought it was R2 who piloted the Naboo starfighter, while the kid was just playing with the buttons.--Relentless666 07:32, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

  • I had thought it was Anakin, though the kid had clearly done so by happenstance... he had to fiddle with the switches to discover what they did and wound up hitting the right ones on accident... or via the Force, unknowingly. --99.29.194.51 20:07, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Abilities Controversy Section

Is the Abilities Controversy section really needed? Going to the real world, isn't it obvious that the reasons R2 doesn't have as many abilities in the Original Trilogy is because Lucas and the Star Wars production crew hadn't thought of these abilities and decided to add them to the Prequel Trilogy? Isn't the reason R2 has more maneuverability in the Prequel Trilogy because he is CG? I don't think this section is really needed but that's just my opinion. --Waffle47 03:17, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

  • The entire section is unreferenced, speculative original research, so yes, it should be nuked with extreme prejudice. ~ SavageBob 06:27, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
    • Opinion-based, if nothing else. Kill and destroy. —CC7567 20px-Rex.png (s)talk 06:45, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
      • Expunge; it's unsourced. But I hope the Breakdance image can be placed somewhere else in the article. --Skippy Farlstendoiro 09:04, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

R2D2 in my Star Trek?

As some of you may have known, J.J. Abrams hide an R2D2 easter egg within the latest Star Trek movie. Has anyone here discovered the location of such droid in a clear and unblurried picture? Unsigned comment by 4.233.115.179 (talk • contribs)

Homeworld

According to The Cloen Wars Season One DVD, Artoo's homeworld is Nubia. 65.34.3.78 01:20, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

It's a droid. Therefore, no homeworld. Droids don't have homes.—B-Boba Fett! Make the check out to "Boba Fett" JasterMereelsSigil-TESB 15:41, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
Yes they do... from a certain point of view. A homeworld for a droid would be where they're created. Zakor1138 04:20, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Does R2 ever die?

IDK just wondering not to familiar with the star wars franchise saw the last 3 films. Thank you for your help! --Itfellapart2010bournemoby 08:31, January 6, 2010 (UTC)

Rewrite

Hey everyone,

I'm working on a major rewrite for this article, found [[:User:Menkooroo/R2-D2|at my workbench here]] (you can also read more about the project [[:User:Menkooroo/fergproject|here]]). If you're interested in rewriting/making major edits to this article as well, definitely let me know first so that we can coordinate our efforts, rather than find ourselves doing the same research and working on the same things simultaneously. Cheers! Menkooroo 04:16, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Sensor color

I noticed that the sensor color is listed as red in the infobox. However, the sensor color does not refer to the processor indicator (which appears red in the infobox image and blue in another image). Sensor color is parallel to eye color in organic beings in the Star Wars universe, and the eye, in the case of R2-series astromechs, is the primary photoreceptor and radar eye, which is black on R2-D2. R2 Speaking

I've notice that nowhere in this article or in Revenge of the Sith does it mention the in the story we actually get a translation of R2's comments to C-3PO. Thoughts? Ztyran 16:40, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Onamonaphile

Is there a commonly agreed-upon spelling for Artoo's outraged scream of "Weooooooww~!" in ESB?

(There may be a silly caption involved. God is in the details.) -Derik@Tfwiki

"Reel 2, Dialogue 2" is just a tale...

...at least according to Star Wars: Behind the Magic CD-ROM. R2-D2 trivia question was "How did George Lucas derive R2-D2's name?" The right answer was "He simply repeated common phonetic sounds until he discovered one that he enjoyed". Further comments: "In The Making of the Empire Strikes Back, it is suggested that R2-D2's name was, in fact, derived from the film term 'Reel 2, Dialogue 2'. However, in The Annotated Screenplays, Lucas corrected the tale and revealed that all of the character's name were created phonetically to be pleasing to hear and easy to say." LelalMekha 20:19, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

It's interesting... I was talking to a couple of Rexair Rainbow sales reps yesterday, and they claimed that George Lucas used to own a Rexair Rainbow (R2) model D2 (Google Image search "rainbow d2") home cleaning system ("vacuum") from the 60's, and that is where the name R2-D2 came from. Of course, GL's own explanation and a (current) lack of reliable source on the Rainbow story will keep this out of the article. - Esjs(Talk) 16:41, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

AAWW

Awww who changed my description of RD-D2?! that was hilarious. Why would anyone do that? --Trollin' wiki 14:51, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

Episode VII

Should we add Episode VII to his appearances, even though we don't know really when it will take place aside from them saying 30-40years after Return of the Jedi? Matt Seay (talk) 19:58, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

  • We can't really say R2 appeared in it, because it hasn't been released yet. Supreme Emperor (talk) 20:09, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

It is a tricky thing because Abrams has said he will be in it but the film has not been made yet.....we will have to wait. Matt Seay (talk) 20:17, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

What exactly is "masculine programming"?

This applies to lots of astromech articles, but really, how messed up are gender roles in our society that a sentence like this "In the Revenge of the Sith novel, R4-P17 is mistakenly—and repeatedly—referred to as retaining male programming" can be written about a beeping trash can on wheels? What discernible difference would male vs. female programming have on an astromech droid to the point that somebody would actually have to program this thing to think its a male or a female? I get that this is just a way of explaining what other characters refer to them as, but couldn't you just say "Pronoun: he/she"? "Programming" makes it sound like being male is somehow integral to the personality of this totally genderless and biologically sexless, non-biological robot. 71.53.28.82 18:20, April 19, 2017 (UTC)
