Two different things?
Are we sure that Bardelberan 7 mentioned in Pirate's Price is the same planet as the Bardelberan shown on the image from Traveler's Guide because those are different names? CanePlayz (talk) 15:27, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- They are not. Jason Fry's nomenclature identifies Bardelberan 7 as a moon and "Bardelberan" is a colloquial name used by galactic citizens to refer to the system that the moon is located in. Indigenous species of said system would most likely have their own "official" name for that system. It's similar to how Leia assumes Han was referring to a system named "Lando" in TESB as Han only ever says "Lando" not "Lando system". LadyNeret (talk) 11:00, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- While I understand that Jason Fry has certain nomenclature for moons and planets, he makes several remarks saying that its based on his assumptions. The article uses the least amount of assumptions, all the information can be found in the books sourced (I also asked in the WP:AST channel, and reached the same conclusion.) --DarthRuiz30 (talk) 07:26, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, to expound on Ruiz's answer - we have been creating articles for Legends star systems based on info in The Essential Atlas because that book explicitly establishes them as such, while, on the other hand, we only create corresponding articles on planets and such only where their existence is corroborated by other sources. With Canon, we are approaching it the other way around - we only create articles for Canon star systems where their existence is established by sources other than just the maps. - I'm sorry but this makes zero sense. Lucasfilm has not changed their approach to how they tackle maps I don't see why we should either. Fry states in 2020: "the name shown on the map is what most ordinary galactic citizens would call that star system by way of shorthand.", then goes on to explain where assumptions apply. LadyNeret (talk) 00:03, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
- System pages with "shorthand" names should still be created based on the maps as they are shown to exist. I do agree however that if we have a "shorthand" name on a map that we should draw the line at not assuming a planet with that "shorthand" name exists and should not create those pages. The maps are official as anything else. Also, I don't know how many times we have to ask Jason Fry to explain this. He has done so numerous times already and has even explained that he has explained this to us as a community but that we as a community are simply unwilling to accept it. We risk putting him offside and he has been a valuable and communicative source of clarification over the years. LadyNeret (talk) 00:14, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
- Furthermore, the makeup of the Traveler's Guide map has been demonstrated to be in error not only with color switches, as noted by Fry. Several moons that are not planets of the galaxy are on the map and no planet with the same name is likely to ever exist specifically in cases such as Jedha and Ajan Kloss for example as they lack numerical identifiers. Back to this page specifically, Barbdelberan 7 is the object within the system referred to by its "shorthand" name: "Barbdelberan", on the map. NOTE: Not "Barbdelberan system", just "Barbdelberan" as that's currently the only way it is described, in canon. LadyNeret (talk) 00:42, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
