"Not only does this green salad bring a pop of color to the plate, it's got a fruity dressin' that adds a touch of festive flavor."
―Strono Tuggs writes about Taba Leaf Salad, The Life Day Cookbook[1]

Taba was a type of leafy green plant. Taba leaf was used as an ingredient in Taba Leaf Salad, where it was served with a fruity dressing. At some point after publishing his first cookbook[1] in 34 ABY,[2] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for Taba Leaf Salad in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, and described the healthy dish as having a festive flavor due to the dressing.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the new Star Wars canon, taba was mentioned in the 2021 Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the salad uses baby spinach in place of taba leaves.[1] Taba originated in the script for the 1978 The Star Wars Holiday Special as the in-universe name for bay leaves; however, the line mentioning taba did not make it into the final version of the special.[3] The plant was then mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in the 2009 StarWars.com Hyperspace article "Dining at Dex's," which was written by Gregory Walker.[4]
