- "We walk into that mess, we've got a real chance of losing. We don't know who's fighting. We don't know the terrain. If the locals are slaughtering one another our odds of doing good by getting in the middle are piss poor. Remember Switchmount?"
- ―Carver, to another soldier
Switchmount[3] was located in an eponymous star system within an intersecting portion of the Mid Rim Territories[1] and the Western Reaches.[2] Situated in the Gendius sector at the coordinates J-17 on the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] it was where the 61st Mobile Infantry, an infantry company in the Rebel Alliance and later its successor, the New Republic, once operated. During its time there, the company attempted to intervene when locals began killing each other, making the situation worse as a result.[3] In 5 ABY,[4] the 61st was deployed on the planet Troithe, where a portion of the company eventually took refuge at a three-story speeder garage in the Highgarden District. When one New Republic soldier on watch suggested intervening in a distant riot, Sergeant Carver cited their time at Switchmount as to why he thought the that former's idea would not work.[3]
Behind the scenes
Switchmount was mentioned in the 2020 novel Shadow Fall: An Alphabet Squadron Novel, written by Alexander Freed as the second installment of the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.[3]
