A surveillance tagger,[2] also known as a sensor tag,[3] was a small tracking device consisting of two distinct parts; the homing beacon and the tracker. The beacon was affixed to a target, usually pinned to clothing, magnetized,[1] or via darts.[2]

Each tagger had a dedicated tracker that was coded to receive the signal from a specific beacon.[1] The beacon relayed information to the tracker about the target's location, direction, and rate of movement.[2] The tagger, and the target it was attached to, could then be tracked from a safe distance.[3]

Surveillance taggers were primarily used as espionage tools by security officers, private investigators, skip tracers, bounty hunters, and intelligence agents.[3]

A variety of models were available on the open market, including Rhinsome Tracking Corporation's SureSnoop, MechBlaze Tracking Corp.'s Observer Mk. I, and Astroserver Industries' Rover and Trailmaster.[3]
