Stretch droids were a type of droid[2] with two brown legs, a black, ribbed cylindrical body and a conical head with a single black photoreceptor.[1] In 32 BBY,[3] a stretch droid was stood next to an RMS droid[2] near the door of the Toydarian Watto's shop in the town of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine when the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Padmé Amidala, the Gungan Jar Jar Binks and the astromech droid R2-D2 entered.[1]
Behind the scenes
A stretch droid first appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1] The droid was first identified in "Every Droid in Star Wars" a video released in 2019 by the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.[2] The name stretch droid originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was originally used in the caption for a promotional still from Episode I published in the Hyperspace Fan Club section of StarWars.com.[4]
