Stontha beasts were a type of creature that lived on the planet Petris Major.[1] By around 482 BBY,[2] the Jedi Wayfinder Tar'ak Borran used a Force artifact known as an Echo Stone to commune with wild herds of stontha beasts to guide them away from floods on the planet.[1]

When Jedi Master Barnabas Vim visited Petris Major to search for Borran[1] around 482 BBY,[2] he spoke with a Theelin merchant who told Vim tales they had heard about Borran, including when he communed with the stontha beasts. Later, Vim mentioned hearing about the stontha beasts from the merchant in a recording he made for his Padawan, Vix Fonnick. Vim's message was stored in a holocron kept in the Jedi Archives on[1] the planet[3] Coruscant.[1] In 228 BBY,[4] the recording was viewed by Jedi Knight Reath Silas and Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo.[1]

Behind the scenes

Stontha beasts were mentioned in a flashback in the second issue of the 2024 comic miniseries Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear. The issue was written by George Mann and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on October 9, 2024,[5] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III.[1]

Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As StarWars.com Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear 2 between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
