Stellan Gios's lightsaber was a blue-bladed crossguard lightsaber owned by Jedi Master Stellan Gios. The lightsaber had a cylindrical silver-and-black hilt with golden accents. Just below the blade emitters, a physical crossguard was mounted, which was pushed out to support the smaller quillon beams when the lightsaber was ignited, but collapsed when the weapon was deactivated for greater portability.[1]
In 232 BBY,[5] Gios attended the dedication of the Starlight Beacon. During the ceremony, Gios and many other Jedi drew their lightsabers and raised them to the stars, producing a bright light that symbolized the hope the Beacon would spread across the Republic.[6] In 231 BBY,[7] Gios participated, and claimed victory, in a mock duel with Jedi Knight Nib Assek aboard the Coruscant Dawn as a demonstration for GoNet reporter Rhil Dairo's all-inclusive report on the upcoming Valo Republic Fair.[4]
After the destruction of Starlight Beacon, during which Gios sacrificed himself to save numerous lives, the logistics droid JJ-5145 gave the fallen Jedi's weapon to Jedi Master Elzar Mann, who had been one of Gios' closest friends.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War, a replica of Gios' lightsaber existed.[8]
Behind the scenes
The lightsaber of Stellan Gios was first detailed in the 2020 reference book Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection, written by Daniel Wallace, illustrated by Lukasz Liszko and Ryan Valle.[1] The weapon made its first appearance in the first issue of the comic series Star Wars: The High Republic, which was written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Ario Anindito, and published by Marvel Comics[6] on January 6, 2021.[9]
According to Michael Siglain, the lightsaber had been inspired by the mythical sword Excalibur.[10]
