Sslanno was a Trandoshan Nihil pirate who served in the Tempest led by Dowutin Tempest Runner Pan Eyta during the High Republic Era.[1] By 231 BBY,[2] Sslanno lost his scales, which did not grow back, in a plasma blast. Sometime afterward, the Er'Kit Nihil Andrik Keller witnessed the Trandoshan pull the spine out of a Whiphid with his bare hands, causing the Whiphid to squeal and Keller to vow to never find himself in a situation where he was the Whiphid.[1]

In 231 BBY,[2] Keller recounted being confronted by the Trandoshan Jedi Master Sskeer at the Battle of Galov[1] from earlier that year[2] to Eyta. The Er'Kit noted he had seen a Trandoshan hunt beforehand, recalling the incident with Sslanno and the Whiphid, and then noting despite his vow, he had found himself in a similar situation to the Whiphid. He then added that while Sskeer had been a Jedi, he could not fight against his nature and had been no better than Sslanno.[1]

Behind the scenes

Sslanno was mentioned in The High Republic: Tempest Runner, a 2021 audio drama written by Cavan Scott and published as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[3] Phase I.[4] The spelling of the Trandoshan's name was later confirmed with the release of the audio drama's script in 2022. At one point, Sslanno is spelled as "Sslano."[1] This article assumes the first spelling of the character's name is correct.
