The squonk was a type of bird from D'Qar.
Biology and appearance
Squonks were two-legged flightless birds native to the jungle planet D'Qar. They had two floppy ears on the sides of their heads, large eyes and tiny beaks. Even though they appeared not to be capable of flight, they had two sizable wings on their frame.[1]
History
When Leia Organa's Resistance was on D'Qar, Rose and Paige Tico set out to explore the planet for natural resources. On that mission, Rose stumbled upon these birds and named them squonks, for "squonk" was the only sound the produced. Because their vehicles had broken down, the Tico sisters used the birds to tug their carts back to the Resistance base, alongside a sample of durasteel ore.[1]
