"Spare Parts" is a short story written by Pablo Hidalgo that was originally published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 11 by West End Games in November 1996 and was later archived online at Hyperspace on March 25, 2005.
Plot summary
A pair of droid traders accidentally steal one of Jabba the Hutt's business droids, but it wanders free from their care. They search the desert for it, narrowly avoiding the stormtrooper attack that torches Jek Nkik's sandcrawler. In the end, the droid theft is a non-issue – the droid was deliberately set up to be stolen in a plot devised by Jabba to catch a business rival red-handed.
Continuity
The Squib trader named Macemillian-winduarté – Mace Windu for short – first saw print in Galaxy Guide 7: Mos Eisley (1993). Therefore, this "Mace Windu" was established as a character years before the Jedi Master seen in Episode I, the result of the creators of the Squib character picking a name from an earlier Star Wars draft script written by George Lucas.[1]
