Sorna

"I have placed flowers on the gravesite of a good friend every year. I've tried several times already this year and I always seem to get turned back. Could you please take these flowers to the gravestone marked Shmi at the old Lars' homestead?"

Sorna was an Human woman who lived on the desert world of Tatooine. She was an old friend of Shmi Skywalker. After Shmi Skywalker's death,^[1] in 22 BBY during the Separatist Crisis,^[2] she used to place flowers on her grave at the Lars homestead every year. At some point during the Galactic Civil War, about twenty years later, the old woman Sorna was unable to do so.^[1] In 1 ABY,^[3] one of her friends, the manager of Tosche Station Cuan Talon hired a spacer to help the woman.^[4] Sorna thus sent the spacer to the Lars homestead to place the flowers for her.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Sorna was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,^[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.^[5]

There is a discrepancy between this storyline and Ryder Windham's novel, A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker. In the novel, it was established that the gravestones on the Lars homestead had all been removed by Owen Lars before 15 BBY, so it shouldn't be possible for Sorna or the player to place flowers on Shmi's grave.
