- "I…I'm from a small mining planet. I always wanted to leave, to find adventure in the stars."
- ―Vharn
Sorgal 12 was an Outer Rim mining planet located in the Mieru'kar sector. The engineer Vharn and his family hailed from Sorgal 12, with the family becoming enslaved by the occupying Galactic Empire. Vharn joined the Rebel Alliance but was killed in 3 ABY by bounty hunter Beilert Valance following a plot to betray the rebels. Valance instructed for half his payment to be used to free Vharm's family on Sorgal 12.
Description
Sorgal 12 was a small mining planet[3] located in the Mieru'kar sector's Sorgal system, which was in the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the New Territories regions of the galaxy.[2] It was situated at grid square N-4 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Sorgal 12 held the twelfth orbital position in its star system.[3]
History
- "I didn't mean…if I gave them the plans, the Empire would ransom my family back. It's the only way I could save them!"
- ―Vharn, pleading with Valance
Vharn (pictured) and his family hailed from Sorgal 12.
The Galactic Empire occupied Sorgal 12 during its reign, enslaving the miners. The engineer Vharn, a native of Sorgal 12 who had been studying at an academy off-planet, joined the Rebel Alliance after his family was enslaved, but later realized that the Rebellion did not prioritize saving his planet, and hoped to betray them to the Empire in order to ransom his family's freedom.[3]
The bounty hunter Beilert Valance, who had been hired to transport Vharn by the Rebel Alliance operative Han Solo[3] in 3 ABY,[4] killed the engineer after learning of his treachery, preventing him from revealing information about rebel contacts, including Valance himself. When delivering Vharn's schematics to the Rebellion, Valance requested that half his payment be sent to ransom Vharn's family on Sorgal 12.[3]
Inhabitants
A mining planet, Sorgal 12 was inhabited by humans.[3]

"Launchpad" — Star Wars Insider 194 places the events of the comic Empire Ascendant 1, which includes the story "Two Sides to Every Sortie," after the events of Doctor Aphra (2016) 40, which take place in 3 ABY per the reasoning here. The comic also features the Rebel Alliance occupying Echo Base, which is evacuated in the same year according to Star Wars: Timelines. Therefore, the events of "Two Sides to Every Sortie" must also take place in 3 ABY.
