The Skilla were a sentient species. Their vital organs,[1] including photosensitive orbs for sight, vibrating cilia for hearing, and smell receptors, lined an uvula-like bulb suspended from the roof of their mouth,[2] behind rows of sharp teeth. The bounty hunter Carib Diss was a Skilla[1] who had an unsettling appearance as a result of his species' biology and wore a sensor dome cap to gather data about his surroundings without needing to open his mouth.[2]

Skilla concept art by Ivan Manzella
The Skilla first appeared in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.[3] The species was designed by concept artist Ivan Manzella under the title "Wizard 41".[4] The names of the Skilla and the first depicted member, Carib Diss, are tuckerizations of Scylla and Charybdis, a duo of sea monsters from Greek mythology.
