The Simoom was a Maelstrom-class battle cruiser.[1] It shared its name with the Mid Rim's Simoom system.[2] The Simoom initially served the Galactic Republic until it was reformed into the Galactic Empire[1] in 19 BBY,[3] when the Galactic Republic Navy resultantly became the Imperial Navy. The Empire mothballed some of the remaining Maelstroms, including the Simoom. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, the scarred and old vessel had fallen under the control of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which employed this battlecruiser in its own naval forces.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Simoom was introduced in the Star Wars Roleplaying sourcebook Lead by Example, which was published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2016 for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game system.[1]
