Silvan Kaan was a Twi'lek criminal who lived during the Imperial Era.[1] In 4 ABY,[2] he traveled to Jabba's Palace on Tatooine. After he spent less than a week at the palace, Kaan approached the protocol droid Eightyem with an offer to free the droid from Jabba's service in exchange for carrying out three favors for him.[1]
The first favor Kaan enlisted Eightyem to complete was to non-lethally poison the food of Jabba's accountant Tessek. Kaan leveraged Tessek's illness to ingratiate himself into the role of accountant. He used the access to information to sow discord among the members of Jabba's court, with special attention to the Ithorian Charn Roondha. Kaan cashed in his second favor from Eightyem to translate between him and the Ithorian, convincing the enforcer that he needed to assassinate Jabba to protect his station. For the third favor, Kaan had Eightyem steal a WESTAR-35 blaster pistol for Roondha, giving the Ithorian the means to kill Jabba. When the assassination attempt failed, Kaan convinced Eightyem to incorrectly translate Roondha's defenses as personal attacks on Jabba, resulting in the Ithorian being executed in the Great Pit of Carkoon.[1]
In spite of his best efforts at manipulation, Kaan's plans were eventually foiled by bounty hunter Bane Malar, who nabbed holorecordings of Eightyem's theft. Kaan was thrust before Jabba for sentencing, and Eightyem ousted the Twi'lek criminal for his crimes against Jabba. Kaan was sentenced to execution in the Great Pit of Carkoon.[1]
