Serendibite was a black-colored material that could be used to fashion earrings.[3] The female human[2] called "Lovey" by the slicer in turn known only as the Master Codebreaker[3] had a set of three-pronged[2] serendibite earrings that she wore in tandem with a fitted lattice dress[3] and a geometric red[2] Nova Sundari-style hairdo.[3]

In 34 ABY,[4] "Lovey" wore that outfit, including the serendibite earrings, while accompanying Master Codebreaker[1]—whom she was secretly studying in hopes of usurping his title[3] as the greatest slicer in the galaxy[5]—at a dice game table at the Canto Casino and Racetrack, in the Canto Bight city on the Outer Rim Territories planet Cantonica.[3] An illustration depicting "Lovey" in her attire was later included in the journal of the Resistance technician Rose Tico.[6]

Behind the scenes

Serendibite was identified in Pablo Hidalgo's 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary as the material of the earrings of[3] the character "Lovey" from that year's sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[1] which the release of the book accompanied.[3] Concept artwork of "Lovey" done by Robert Rowley instead depicted her with earrings of a silver-colored material.[7] In the real world, serendibite is one of the rarest gemstones in the world. It is a mineral with a deep blue, bluish-black,[8] pale yellow, blue-green, or grayish blue coloration.[9]
