- "This is Sefin Garoby… I have crashed on a moon called Toshara. Regretfully, none of the Clone troopers survived… The moon does not appear in any of the records, but it's a developed world with a mostly human population. They don't speak Basic but my protocol droid speaks an old language that seems to approximate their native tongue. The people are peaceful and unaware of the war. I will send more reports as soon as possible."
- ―Transmission from Sefin Garoby
A member of the Grand Army of the Republic named Sefin Garoby had a protocol droid with them when they crash landed on Outer Rim moon Toshara during the Clone Wars.
History
- "This is Sefin Garoby. The transport shuttle is repaired, and I am ready to continue my mission. I have left my protocol droid behind, as the Tosharans have shown great interest in learning Basic and establishing trade routes. I hope, once the war is over, we will be able to build links to worlds like this again."

Sefin Garoby and their protocol droid crash landed on the moon Toshara
The protocol droid worked with Sefin Garoby and the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems[1] that took place from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.[2] At one point during the war, Garboy and the droid were aboard a transport shuttle with a group of clone troopers when the shuttle crashed on the Outer Rim moon Toshara, resulting in the deaths of the troopers and damage to the shuttle's hyperdrive.
Following the crash, Garboy and the droid survived met the local Tosharans who had been isolated from the rest of the galaxy since long before the war. The droid managed to communicate with the Tosharans, who did not speak Galactic Basic, by using an old language that approximated the Toshari spoken by the locals. After which a couple of local Tosharan mechanics offered to repaired the crashed shuttle and by the time it had been repaired the Tosharans had expressed interest in learning Galactic Basic and establishing trade routes with the galaxy. Hoping to see that goal fulfilled, Garoby left the droid on Toshara when they departed the moon in the repaired shuttle to continue her mission [1] the planet[3] Felucia.
While on Toshara, Garoby made at least four reports, which they broadcast to the Galactic Republic, copies of which were captured by equipment that remained in orbit above Toshara through the end of the war and into the reign of the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire.[1]
Four of the transmissions were discovered by the scoundrel Kay Vess[1] in 3 ABY. That same year,[4] Vess's companion ND-5, a BX-series droid commando, was able to use Garoby's reports along with several other Clone Wars–era transmissions to track down a Separatist base on the Outer Rim jungle planet Akiva.[1]
Characteristics
The protocol droid was capable of speaking Galactic Basic and a language which approximated Toshari.[1]
Behind the scenes
Sefin Garoby's protocol droid was mentioned in two collectible transmissions in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The two collectible transmissions, titled "Sefin's Journey 01" and "Sefin's Journey 04" were part of the "Separatist Transmissions" expert intel quest, which eventually points the player to MT-7, one of nine Experts whom the player can meet and complete quests for in order to gain various abilities.[1]
