Sand snakes were a type of furry snake found on the arid planet Geonosis in the Outer Rim Territories. Their eyes and mouths were situated at the center of their body, which could grow up to three meters, or ten feet, in length. Larger and deadlier than the parasitic phidna, sand snakes were wily enough to keep their natural predator, the dog-like massiff, at bay.[1] Around 9 BBY, the Galactic Empire sterilized Geonosis.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, sand snakes were mentioned in "Geonosis and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," a part of the Star Wars Encyclopedia series released by De Agostini[1] on November 23, 2021.[3] The section mentioning sand snakes[1] was written by Mark Newbold.[4] The snakes originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in the 2002 novel Boba Fett: The Fight to Survive, which was written by Terry Bisson.[5]
