Sand rats were a type of rat, known for living in hiding. The Mandalorian Paz Vizsla compared his tribe residing in a hidden covert after the Great Purge of Mandalore to sand rats.[1]

Sand rats were first mentioned in canon in "Chapter 3: The Sin," the third episode of the first season of the television series, The Mandalorian,[1] which aired on November 22, 2019.[2]
