The Sagma system was a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Illisurevimurasi sector. Situated within the borders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems at the beginning of the Clone Wars, by 18 BBY the star system was situated in territory controlled by Separatist holdouts. That year, the Galactic Empire prevailed over a swarm of Sikurdian pirates at the Battle of Sagma there, and the Empire was later also victorious in an engagement of the Galactic Civil War fought in the Sagma system.
Description
The Sagma system was located in the Illisurevimurasi sector,[1] a part of the Trans-Hydian portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] It was situated on the Listehol Run hyperspace route, which linked it to the Mirial system as well as the Sikurd system[3] of the Tynquay sector.[1]
History
The Battle of Sagma of the Listehol Campaign was fought in the Sagma system.
During the first campaigns of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, the Sagma system fell within the territory controlled by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, with the Eleventh Sector Army of the Galactic Republic being tasked with engaging the Confederacy's military forces in the system's vicinity. By 18 BBY, the Sagma system fell within the territory held by Separatist holdouts. That year, the system was the site of the Battle of Sagma, an engagement of the Listehol Campaign of the Galactic Empire's Reconquest of the Rim, in which an Imperial fleet prevailed over a swarm of Sikurdian pirates before advancing spinward along the Listehol Run.[4] Years later, at some point between 2 BBY and 4 ABY, the Empire also emerged victorious in a battle of the Galactic Civil War fought in the Sagma system against the Rebel Alliance.[3]
Behind the scenes
The Sagma system was first mentioned in "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article published in the thirteenth issue of the Voyages SF magazine that placed the system in the Galpos sector. Since that article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,[5] it was considered non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[6] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry subsequently placed the Sagma system in grid square Q-4,[3] and the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book later overrode the Voyages SF 13 placement by instead establishing that the system was located in the Illisurevimurasi sector.[1]
