Saberfish were a type of enormous fish that lived in the storm seas of[1] the Mid Rim planet[2] Tibrin. During the High Republic Era, a countess from[1] the Core Worlds planet[2] Abregado-rae ordered a saberfish for her private aquarium. The fish was transported to Abregado at great difficulty by the Byne Guild Class A modular freight transport Legacy Run under the command of Captain Hedda Casset in a water tank within its primary compartment.[1]

However, when the noblewoman's staff proved unable to take care of the fish, and when it became ill, she decided to pay full freight to send it back. The Legacy Run then returned the saberfish to Tibrin three days later. Casset later thought about the ordeal[1] in 232 BBY,[3] commending the countess for saving the creature when many other nobles would have let it die.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, saberfish were mentioned in The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, a 2021 novel written by Charles Soule[1] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.[4] A preliminary excerpt of the novel released on IGN on June 22, 2020 identified the fish as coming from[5] the Core Worlds planet[6] Spira;[5] however, this was changed to Tibrin in the final version.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, saberfish first appeared in The Clone Wars: The Smuggler's Code, a comic book written by Justin Aclin, illustrated by Eduardo Ferrara, and released by Dark Horse Comics[7] on June 19, 2013.[8]
