"The Empire has a large operation on one of the islands in the Great Basin. My sources tell me they are looking for artifacts for 'cultural importance'. Needless to say we cannot let them take our history! A group of us are planning to sabotage the operation. Whatever the consequences. Are you in? Now delete this message. I mean that Ruto!"
―Data message to Ruto[1]

Ruto was an individual who resided on the Outer Rim jungle planet Akiva during the reign of the Galactic Empire.[1] By 3 ABY,[2] Ruto had been sent a message by a fellow Akivan who had learned that the Empire had established an excavation site in the Great Basin region of Akiva to search for artifacts for cultural importance. In the message, the Akivan expressed their belief that the Empire's operation would result in the theft of Akivan history and went on to share their plan to sabotage the site. They concluded the message by asking Ruto to join them as well as reminding Ruto to delete the message. The communication ultimately end up in possession of the Empire, a copy of it was stored on a datapad at the excavation site[1] in 3 ABY.[2]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Outlaws. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon.

That year,[2] the thief Kay Vess found and read the datapad while at the excavation site.[1]

Behind the scenes
