- "ROOOAAARRR! *grunt*"
- ―The roar of a roggwart
Roggwarts were large predatory beasts. A distinguishing anatomical feature were a pair of curving horns growing from the sides of their heads. They had a long tail and thick skin. Gor was a pet roggwart owned by General Grievous during the Clone Wars.
Biology
Roggwarts were large, horned creatures native to Vendaxa, where they are natural enemies of the acklay. The roggwart's evolutionary adaptation made it ideally suited for taking on single foes, since it rarely encounters more than one acklay at a time. A roggwart standed on its hind legs and used its sharp fangs, wicked claws, and thick tail to subdue its prey. A roggwarts was not terribly cunning, but it was difficult to surprise, retaining its predatory instincts even in captivity.[2]
History
A roggwart attacks clone troopers
Roggwarts were believed to be a natural offshoot of the Bitthævrians species, were created from them through genetic tinkering, or the two just happen to look similar due to convergent evolution.[3]
After the Jedi and Kaleesh defeated the Bitthævrians in the Invasion of Guiteica, many Kaleesh warriors took baby roggwarts as trophies. Following the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War, nearly every Kaleesh warlord owned at least one or two roggwarts as watch-guardians or pets.[3]
By the times of the Clone Wars,[1] General Grievous had obtained[2] and kept a pet roggwart[1] native from Guiteica[4] named Gor in his castle on Vassek's third moon.[1] Gor was roughly the size of a rancor, and was outfitted with battle armor, including a chest plate with mechanical arms, and helmet. He was released to attack Jedi Master Kit Fisto, his former padawan, Nahdar Vebb, and clone commander Fil, in Grievous' castle. In the end, Gor was defeated by Kit Fisto in Grievous' own home.[1]
