Four years after the Battle of Yavin, the Freemakers staged a mission to rescue Rowan Freemaker. The Imperial hunter droid M-OC and Darth Vader lured Rowan into a trap on the planet Qalydon. Defying the Rebel Alliance leadership, Rowan's brother Zander, sister Kordi, and B1-series battle droid Roger undertook a mission to rescue Rowan from Coruscant. Despite rescuing Rowan, the Freemakers lost their starship Arrowhead to M-OC, who claimed the powerful vessel for the Emperor.

Prelude

During the Galactic Civil War, Rowan Freemaker received a Force vision telling him to build a powerful starship called the Arrowhead, which the Mon Calamari shipbuilder Quarrie believed could turn the tide of the war.[5] Following a long and arduous quest, Rowan and his family succeeded in building the Arrowhead and saving the rebel fleet from Imperial forces.[6]

Seeking Rowan, the Kyber Saber, and the Arrowhead, the Emperor Emperor tasked Darth Vader and the Imperial hunter droid M-OC with capturing Rowan. M-OC managed to lure Rowan into a trap on Qalydon. However, Lord Vader ambushed M-OC and disintegrated the droid, claiming the credit for capturing Rowan instead.[1]

Lord Vader took Rowan to the Imperial Palace on Coruscant. While the Emperor was enraged that Rowan had destroyed the Kyber Saber, Vader managed to convince the Emperor that Rowan could help them to gather more kyber crystals for the second Death Star.[3]

The rescue mission

Imperial captive

Rowan's siblings Kordi and Zander Freemaker tried to seek permission from the Alliance High Command to rescue their brother. While sympathetic, Admiral Ackbar, General Hera Syndulla, and Mon Mothma were unwilling to commit resources to rescue Rowan since Coruscant was heavily defended and the Alliance was preparing for the assault on the second Death Star. Kordi, Zander, and Roger then managed to borrow the Arrowhead with the help of Lieutenant Valeria, who was sympathetic to their plight.[3]

Back on Coruscant, Darth Sidious tried to win Rowan over by giving a hologram propaganda presentation about his life. However, Rowan was bored. The Emperor then decided to change tactics and had Vader probe Rowan's mind for the location of more kyber crystals. Despite Rowan's resistance, Lord Vader discovered the location of the planet where Jedi Master Baird Kantoo had forged the Kyber Saber. Vader then made arrangements for Graballa to travel to the planet and obtains its kyber crystals. With Rowan having outlived his usefulness, the Emperor ordered his execution.[3]

Assault on Coruscant

Meanwhile, the Freemakers arrived in the Coruscant system and used the Arrowhead to destroy three Imperial Star Destroyers and numerous TIE fighters. The Imperial commanders tried to warn the Emperor but he was too preoccupied with interrogating Rowan and drove away several stormtroopers and Royal Guards with Force lightning. Roger then flew the Arrowhead above the Imperial Palace and dropped Kordi and Zander on the top spire.[3]

Shortly later, M-OC, who had managed to reassemble himself, returned to Coruscant. He engaged the Arrowhead in a dogfight. Roger easily destroyed his starship Tracker I but the indestructible droid managed to climb onto the Arrowhead's hull after Roger lowered the shields. Meanwhile, Kordi and Zander overpowered two Royal Guards and stole their uniforms. They rescued Rowan and went to rendezvous with Roger at the top spire.[3]

M-OC's return

However, M-OC hijacked the Arrowhead after Roger opened the canopy. He tore Roger apart and threw the droid onto the battlements of the Imperial Palace. M-OC then used the Arrowhead to open fire on the Freemakers, causing them to fall onto the battlements. Rowan managed to use the Force to save himself and his siblings. After rebuilding Roger, they escaped on an Ugly that Rowan cobbled from the rubble.[3]

Aftermath

Despite rescuing Rowan Freemaker from the Emperor and Lord Vader, the Freemakers lost the Arrowhead to M-OC. M-OC managed to regain the Emperor's favor by presenting him with the Arrowhead. The Emperor then sent M-OC to eliminate the Freemakers once and for all.[3]

Flying the Arrowhead, M-OC soon caught up with the Freemakers in the Coruscant system and attacked their Ugly TIE. Despite shooting their solar collectors, M-OC was denied victory when Quarrie arrived in the Arrowhead and rescued the Freemakers. Seeking to destroy M-OC, the Freemakers led him to the stormy world of Shantipole, where a fierce dogfight took place.[2]
