The Republic space tug, or Republic tugboat, was a model of spacetug deployed by the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars. Several tugs were launched following the Carida incident to rescue the astromech droid of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, from the wreckage of the Venator-class Star Destroyer Renown, which was turned by Separatist Alliance forces into a large bomb.
Characteristics
The Republic space tug, also known as the Republic tugboat,[2] was a model of spacetug utilized by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars.[1] The had a compact hull with a raised cockpit with angular viewports at midship, behind the two prongs that defined its bow. The midship additionally had circular docking clamps, and intake-like features that fed into the two square clusters that each held four linear sublight engines. The two clusters featured flaps on all sides. The tug additionally used red and blue lights across various points throughout the hull. The tugs were painted in light gray, with red and yellow livery.[2]
History
Several of these starships participated in the aftermath of the Carida incident, in which they were used to find the astromech droid R2-D2 from the wreckage of the Venator-class Star Destroyer Renown, which was hijacked by Separatist Alliance forces and turned into a large bomb. The astromech was a stowaway along with members of the Republic's D-Squad, and prematurely detonated the Renown before it reached the Republic Navy assembled above[1] the Colonies[3] planet[4] Carida.[1]

The Republic space tug first appeared in "Point of No Return,"[1] the thirteenth episode of the fifth season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which released on January 12, 2013.[5]
