Following the secession of a multitude of star systems from the Galactic Republic into the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Galactic Senate passed a law prohibiting the senators of the Republic and Separatist Senates from communicating with each other. This law continued into the time of the Clone Wars and hampered a peace deal between Republic Senator Padmé Amidala and Separatist Senator Mina Bonteri.
