"The Senate's made it illegal."
"Illegal?"
"They say official meetings would only legitimize the Separatists." - ―Ahsoka Tano and Padmé Amidala
The Republic Senate non-communication law was established by the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic following the Separatist Crisis and the outbreak of the Clone Wars. Established partially in fear of granting legitimacy to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the law prevented Republic senators from engaging in official discussions with the Separatist Senate, as well as was partially organized in an effort to ease the location of government traitors for Republic Intelligence.[2] In 21 BBY, Senator Padmé Amidala and the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano decided to breach this law in order to meet the Separatist official Mina Bonteri, who was interested in finding a diplomatic solution to the Clone Wars. Following the bombing of Coruscant's central power distribution grid, the Republic abandoned a peace initiative with the Separatists. Tano's master, the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, later reprimanded her for breaking this law.[1]
