Republic Mobile Surgical Units were mobile,[3] prefabricated[4] medical centers utilized by the Galactic Republic's Grand Army during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Employed by most Republic battalions, the surgical units were operated by a combination of medical interns, volunteers, droids, and members from the Jedi MedCorps, who handled wounded individuals. However, those who required long-term medical care were transferred to larger medical facilities, such as Haven-class medical stations, or MedStar-class and Pelta-class frigates.[3]
After the Proclamation of the New Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Mobile Surgical Units were replaced by the new Imperial version.[4]
Behind the scenes
Republic Mobile Surgical Units were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, a 2018 reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo,[2] and were first identified as such in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying product series.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Republic Mobile Surgical Units were introduced in MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, a 2004 novel authored by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.[5]
