Rebel heavy battle armor

Rebel heavy battle armor was type of heavy battle armor used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic's military during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. It was used by rebel troopers to help ensure their survival when outmanned by superior Imperial forces during battle. The armor provided its user with heavy protection, while still providing them with freedom of movement.^[1]

The heavy battle armor was created with a combination of composite, laminate, and armored clothing that provided significant protection. Its base layer was made out of armorweave cloth which could dissipate blaster bolts. Plastoid segments were place on top to help protect against fragmentation and blunt force. The armor was also equipped with a helmet-fitted breath mask and a respirator.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Rebel heavy battle armor was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Forged in Battle,^[1] a 2016 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.^[2] The armor originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was known as Rebel battle armor. It first appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony and published by LucasArts,^[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.^[4]
