This flute was a wind musical instrument that belonged to a man on the desert planet Golak. When his village was attacked and burned, he sent his son Charuk and his Force-sensitive daughter away to find the Golak Mahal, giving them his flute as a reminder of him. While on the hovertrain en route to a city near the Mahal, Rani used the Force to pull the flute from Charuk's belt as he walked to get her some Le'bi. A pair of scavengers noticed this and reported her actions to a nearby stormtrooper, who almost apprehended the young girl before Charuk distracted them.[1]
The pair kept the flute with them as they escaped the Imperials and disembarked from the train, eventually arriving at their destination. An Inquisitor arrived shortly after them in search of Rani, and engaged the owner of the Mahal, a Jedi-in-hiding named Rugal, in a duel to the death. Rugal defeated the Inquisitor and took Rani with her into hiding. As they descended through a secret door beneath a pool of water, Rani left the flute behind for her brother to remember her by. Bittersweet, Charuk played the flute as he wished her well.[1]
Behind the scenes
This instrument made its first appearance in the Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 episode "The Bandits of Golak," written and directed by Ishan Shukla, and produced by 88 Pictures.[1] It was designed by both TG Satheesh and Aajjay Mahajan.[2]
