R6-D8 was an R6 astromech droid[5] that served in the Resistance as the astromech of Temmin Wexley.[4] He[7] perished alongside his master when their T-70 X-wing starfighter was downed into a Star Destroyer by the Sith Eternal forces during the Battle of Exegol, moments before the arrival of the Citizens' Fleet.[2]
Before his death, R6-D8 learned of Mister Bones, Wexley's late reprogrammed B1-series battle droid, after studying his masters logs. Seeking to please Wexley, R6-D8 tried to make himself more aggressive. However, he did not dare to overwrite the factory-set safety inhibitors in his personality matrix.[7]
Behind the scenes
R6-D8 first appeared in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens,[8] albeit unnamed. He was first identified in the 2016 reference book Poe Dameron: Flight Log.[4]
In the non-canonical game LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Snap Wexley's astromech malfunctions, requiring him to rebuild a new one. The three options for Snap to rebuild are R2-D3, R4-P44, and Q7. However, the malfunctioning astromech is not identified as R6-D8.[10] The Lego Star Wars set "Resistance X-Wing Fighter" features Snap Wexley's X-Wing, however it does not have R6-D8, nor any astromech for that matter.[11]
