R2-D3 was one of the astromech droids on D'Qar. When R6-D8 malfunctioned right before the Battle of Starkiller Base, R2-D3 took his place as Temmin Wexley's astromech for the battle.[1]

Behind the scenes

R2-D3 first appeared in the video game LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He was one of three multi-build options alongside Q7 and R4-P44 to replace R6-D8 as Temmin Wexley's astromech.[1]
