R2-B1 was an R2-series astromech droid. His last assigned duty was on Naboo, in the repair droid pool on the royal cruiser belonging to Queen Amidala. There the droid worked alongside the famed R2-D2.[1]

Biography

During the blockade of Naboo and the subsequent heroic escape, the ship carrying Queen Amidala was hit by enemy fire and damaged. The six droids stored on board were sent out to repair the damage during the attack. R2-B1 was one of the many droids destroyed in this event, blasted off the hull of the starship. Only R2-D2 survived to restore shield power to the cruiser, allowing the ship to eventually make its way to Tatooine for further repairs.[2]

The Hasbro toy company produced three distinct action figures portraying R2-B1. The first was issued in the year 2000, in the Episode I toy line,[3] the second in 2007 as part of 30th Anniversary Collection.[4] The last iteration was included in the 2012 "Royal Starship Droids" four-figure "Battle Pack", part of the Walmart exclusive 'Discover the Force' series.[5]

For Star Wars Day 2015, Gamestop released an exclusive Funko POP! R2-B1 Vinyl Bobble-Head figure.
