A purple cloud gown was a dress worn by Padmé Amidala, senator of the Chommell sector and former queen of Naboo. Amidala wore the dress during a visit to the Core World of Alderaan.[1]
The dress was purple with a skirt made of a dozen layers of fabric, each a slightly different hue. The bodice of the dress was tightly fitted and the neckline was decorated to match the skirt of the dress, Amidala's handmaiden Sabé claimed gave the impression of a purple could descended upon Amidala's shoulders. Though the dress was heavier than it looked, it moved easily as Amidala walked and gave her no trouble on the incline.[1]
In 28 BBY, Amidala wore the dress when she and her entourage were greeted by Queen Breha Organa of Alderaan in the throne room of the Royal Palace of Alderaan. While wearing the dress, Amidala had her hair down with some of her curls pinned in places with white flowers bought from a Coruscant hydroponics unit.[1]
Behind the scenes
- " Anyway, I wanted her look on Alderaan to be entirely different. We've seen her "pretty, informal" dresses in AotC (she actually HAS to wear the Lake Dress at the beginning of the book, because it's the fanciest thing they packed for the trip), and I wanted to give her something that was not work but still...On Display, if that makes sense?
So I went full Disney Princess. Literally. Her dress for Alderaan is essentially the live action Cinderella dress, but in purple and with a higher neckline." - ―E. K. Johnston, regarding the dress Padmé wears on Alderaan in Queen's Shadow
The dress appeared in the novel Queen's Shadow by E. K. Johnston.[1] On her Tumblr, Johnston stated that the dress was essentially the dress worn by Lily James in the 2015 Cinderella film except a different color and with a higher neckline.[2]
