Protein pills were a type of pill that contained protein that could be consumed by humans.[1] Around 19 BBY,[2] the "4040s"—a pro-Galactic Empire activist group—met in a dive bar on Level 4040 of the planet Coruscant. While there, a large group of protesters—including the spy Chemish Runazha—ate protein pills and soup.[1]

Protein pills appeared in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, written by Alexander Freed as the first installment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]

Therefore, the events of Edge of the Abyss must be set in 6 BBY, and the events of The Mask of Fear in 19 BBY.
