4040s

The "4040s" were a pro–Galactic Empire activist group based on the ecumenopolis planet Coruscant's 4040th level that were active during the first year of the Imperial reign. Functioning as something of a paramilitary group in time, the group was extremely supportive of Emperor Sheev Palpatine, and derisive of his foes. Similar groups flourished all over Coruscant, but the 4040s were one of the oldest. The group had some degree of connection to the Imperial administration, particularly Imperial Intelligence. The group regularly held protests outside the offices of the Chandrilan Senator Mon Mothma and other members of the Delegation of 2,000. Laevido, a man that had formerly worked in weather control, was the de facto leader of the group.^[1]

The 4040s held meetings in dive bars, clubs, and other areas on the 4040th level. The group was almost entirely human, though one member—Dakhmi—was an Omwati. Other members that belonged to the inner circle included the Kloo horn player Fowlitz, the married couple Erinya and Jayu, and Thalvus Agyomenidus, who was radicalized by the group and attempted to assassinate Senator Mothma and her husband Perrin Fertha.^[1]

Chemish Runazha, a member of Imperial Intelligence, infiltrated the group as "Homish Grayline" to learn about why Thalvus Agyomenidus had murdered their cousin Zhuna, who was killed in his assassination attempt on Senator Mothma. Chemish got to meet the hundreds associated with the group at meetings, fundraisers, speeder races, political rallies, and private gatherings. They questioned whether or not the 4040s were a potential source of informants and agents, or a threat to be surveilled.^[1]

At various political rallies, the 4040s observed the arrivals and departures of senatorial aides and recorded speeder traffic, leading Chemish to wonder what the group was doing with the surveillance data. Listening to an exchange between Laevido and Dakhmi, they learned that the 4040s had a demonstration planned for Separatist Reintegration Day in order to make the worlds that had been aligned with the Confederacy of Independent Systems feel unwelcome in the new Empire.^[1]
