"Alone tonight?"
"Just me."
"Hmm. Have you been with us before?"
"First time."
"Well, you picked a great night. It's sort of been quiet this evening."
―A hostess and Cassian Andor[2]

Prostitutes were individuals who provided sexual activity services in exchange for payment.[1] They were typically seen working in brothels.[2] During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the slums of Valentia—the capital city[3] of the planet Jelucan—were known to inhabit prostitutes, dealers, and smugglers.[1] In 5 BBY,[2] the human Cassian Jeron Andor[4] visited a brothel in the Leisure Zone on[2] the planet[5] Morlana One in an attempt to search for his sister. He then asked a hostess about a girl from his homeworld Kenari. After checking, the hostess informed Andor that the Kenari girl no longer worked there, before offering him other prostitutes he might be interested in.[2]

Behind the scenes

The concept of prostitution was introduced in the current Star Wars canon via a mention in the 2015 novel Lost Stars, written by Claudia Gray and published by Disney–Lucasfilm Press.[1] It later received its visual depiction in "Kassa," the first episode of the first season of the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Andor,[2] which aired on September 21, 2022.[6] In Star Wars Legends continuity, prostitution as a concept was first introduced in the 1977 Marvel comic book series Star Wars, which was written by Mary Jo Duffy and illustrated by Ron Frenz.[7]
