Pontifex was a religious title used by the Brotherhood of Cognizance. Centuries prior to[1] 22 BBY,[2] it was common for a Pontifex to legalise marriages. The Pontifex Maxiron Agolerga legalised the marriage between Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker[1] in 22 BBY,[2] after the practice had not been performed for 300 years.[1]
