- "The New Republic can't even protect the Mid Rim from the Pirate Nation."
- ―Gorian Shard to Greef Karga
The Pirate Nation was a pirate utopian in existence during the New Republic Era.[1] While the idea of any kind of "pirate nation" seemed impossible before the establishment of the Sovereign Latitudes of Maracavanya[2] around 5 ABY,[3] the Pirate Nation had already established itself as a formidable force[1] by 9 ABY[4] and was actively making incursions into the Mid Rim Territories[1] by that same year.[4] The New Republic was unable to defend the Mid Rim from these incursions, which was known to Pirate King Gorian Shard.[1]
