The Phoenix was a GX1 short hauler used by the Galactic Republic during an attempt to negotiate with the Separatists during the Clone Wars.[4] It was a diplomatic vessel that was designed for long and extended missions.[3]
History
The hyperdrive-enabled escape pod
The Phoenix was used by members of a diplomatic envoy to the neutral planet of Mandalore, where the peace talks took place. It was guarded by Captain Taggart's Senate Guards during the negotiations.[4]
Ahsoka Tano and Lux Bonteri used the ship to escape Mandalore after Lux disrupted the peace talks and Count Dooku ordered him to be executed. Bonteri later hijacked the vessel and steered it to Carlac, where he met up with a group of Mandalorian Death Watch warriors led by Pre Vizsla, believing they would help him kill the Count.[4]
After Tano and Bonteri attempted to stop the Mandalorians from burning a local Ming Po town, they fled in the Phoenix and Bonteri stole a hyperdrive-equipped escape pod to continue his quest to kill Dooku.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Phoenix first appeared "A Friend in Need," the fourteenth episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars fourth season,[5] which premiered on January 13, 2012.[6] It was later identified in the episode guide for "A Friend in Need" and the ship's Encylopedia entry.[5][2] The Phoenix was first identified as a GX1 Short Hauler in the now Legends article "Drawing from the Imagination: Mythological Creatures in Star Wars, Part 1."[7] In the current canon, the ship was identified as a GX1 Short Hauler by the Databank entry for the ship's model.[1]
