- "This species of flying insect resides among the Outer Rim planets. This scientist was fortunate to observe them on the lush, forested world of Ashas Ree, a beautiful location known for its abundance of wildlife."
- ―Ardis San Tekka about Parvinoths, in her journal
Parvinoths were non-sentient insects found on planets throughout Outer Rim Territories, including the forested planet Ashas Ree. While on a supply run in 34 ABY, the siblings Kel and Eila followed a swarm of the creatures to the entrance of Ashas Ree's Temple of the Force, entranced by their beauty.
Biology and appearance
- "Like their fellow insectoids, the bioluminescent parvinoths have four legs."
- ―Ardis San Tekka, in her journal
Parvinoths were a type of non-sentient insects found on planets throughout the Outer Rim Territories,[3] including in the forests of the planet Ashas Ree.[4] They featured silvery[3] bioluminescent[1] wings that glowed in sunlight.[3] Parvinoths had blue body, white eyes, yellow antennae,[2] and four legs. The insects did not have a venomous bite.[1]
Behavior
- "They travel in large swarms, with their white-winged configurations creating cloudlike formations across the skies. They are generally not aggressive and are not known to harbor a venomous bite."
- ―Ardis San Tekka about parvinoths, in her journal
The species' delicate wings enabled parvinoths to fly harmlessly through a world's breeze.[3] Parvinoths traveled in large swarms, forming cloud-like formations in the skies. The creatures were generally not aggressive.[1]
History
- "Look at that."
"Wow!"
"Wow."
"So beautiful." - ―Kel and Eila, about a swarm of parvinoths
Kel and Eila followed a swarm of parvinoths to Ashas Ree's Temple of the Force.
While visiting Ashas Ree on a supply run alongside other residents of the supertanker fuel depot Colossus[4] in 34 ABY,[5] the siblings Eila and Kel were entranced by a[4] dazzling[6] parvinoth in the planet's outpost. When they commented on its beauty, the creature maintained the siblings' attention as it joined a swarm of the creatures. The pair decided to follow the insects to a nearby Temple of the Force as they flitted through the air, with Eila leaping in the air to try and catch one.[4]
Colossus resident and spy Kazuda Xiono was frustrated upon finding the children had wandered off and chased them to the temple's entrance, noticing the swarm of parvinoth dispersed as he approached. Despite Xiono's protests, Kel and Eila followed a single parvinoth into the structure. As the creature flew upward to a gap in the roof, then later downward toward the temple's entrance to the Sith temple below, the group's attention was drawn to several symbols carved into the ground.[4]
At some point no earlier than 35 ABY,[7] Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts' Director of Creature Cartography, Ardis San Tekka, and her safari droid, B8-T5, visited Ashas Ree observed parvinoths there. On the world, San Tekka sketched several illustrations of the creatures while her droid compiled notes on their behavioral traits for them to study later. After departing Ashas Ree, San Tekka included an entry about parvinoths featuring her illustrations within her journal.[1]

Colas Gauthier's concept art of parvinoths
Parvinoth first appeared in "The Relic Raiders,"[4] the seventh episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance. Prior to the episode's release on November 17, 2019,[9] they were included in a season trailer released on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on August 14 of the same year.[10] Parvinoth were first identified by name in the corresponding episode guide for "The Relic Raiders."[11] Lucasfilm Animation artist Colas Gauthier made a concept illustration of the creatures titled "ashButterflies" on June 15, 2018.[2]
Parvinoths were included in the 2024 reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, written by S.T. Bende and illustrated by Iris Compiet.[1] When starting work on the book in 2022, Bende and the editor Sammy Holland compiled a list of roughly 400 species that considered for inclusion in a spreadsheet. From these, the final 130, which included parvinoth, were drafted into the reference book, with the insect's entry also surviving further cuts made after the first draft. Compiet's illustrations of parvinoths for the book—which started production in 2023—were done with acrylic, gouache, and watercolor paints. The artist preferred to create the work with traditional techniques, wanting to reflect the drawings San Tekka would have drawn in-universe for her journal. Every creature in Star Wars Bestiary had several sketches made for them, the final selections of which were approved by Lucasfilm Story Group.[12]
