Development

Padawans, Pirates and Princesses was first revealed as Star Wars: Secret Forces: A Classified Guide to the Women of the Galaxy in official online listings by Studio Fun International with a release date of October 25, 2016.[4] The book was then retitled several times, first as Star Wars: Heroines of the Star Wars Galaxy[5] and then as Star Wars: The Female Force, the latter of which featured an alternate release date of August 30, 2016.[6] The October 25 release date returned when the book was retitled again as Star Wars: The Women of the Star Wars Galaxy. This version of the book would have been published in dimensions of 9 inches by 10 ½ inches,[3] was intended for children ages 6 to 12,[2] and featured cover art[3] by artist Brian Rood.[1]

The book was then delisted and later reappeared under its final title with new cover art[7] and a release date of September 19, 2017.[2] However, the book was canceled thereafter.[7] Publisher Chronicle Books eventually released the similarly titled Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy on October 30, 2018.[8]
