The Orleon Belt Grand Slalom Finals was an asteroid slalom race that occurred during the early reign of the Galactic Empire. An undetected stone mite infestation resulted in several racers and their vehicles being devored during the race, an event witnessed by the many horrified viewers watching live from around the galaxy. The tragedy caused bookings for asteroid slalom events to plummet and resulted in the end of the sport's heightened popularity. The event shared part of its name[1] with the Orleon system in the Talcene sector of the Mid Rim.[2]
Behind the scenes

The Orleon Belt Grand Slalom Finals was first mentioned in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Incredible Cross-Sections, which was written by Jason Fry.[1] The race shares its name with the Star Wars Legends planet Orleon, which was shown to be heavily infested with stone mites in the 1979 comic Star Wars (1977) 28.[3]
In the 2022 non-canon reference book LEGO Star Wars Awesome Vehicles, which was written by Simon Hugo, there is a poster for the finals that reads "Don't miss the Orleon Belt Ski Speeder Slalom Finals!" with a picture of a V-4X-D ski speeder racing across brown and yellow terrain with a plume of red dust rising behind it. A speech bubble coming from the speeder reads "It's all downhill from here!."[4]
