"Wait, what am I doing? I'm on a rancor."
―Sana Starros[1]

Nussi was a rancor who lived during the Imperial Era. At one point, she was acquired by the Patrolian Wollina for his zoo on the Outer Rim planet Hon-Tallos, after he came up with a contract with the Shani bounty hunter Deva Lompop that involved not breeding the rancor. In need of money for his zoo, however, Wollina eventually broke his agreement with Lompop and began to breed Nussi.

Around 3 ABY, Lompop discovered that the Patrolian had broken their agreement and planned to liberate the rancor with the help of the smuggler Sana Starros and the Genetian Collective syndicate. Despite Wollina's attempts to stop the Shani and Starros, the two were able to rescue Nussi from the zoo.

Nussi was a rancor who lived during the Imperial Era.[1] By around 3 ABY,[3] she was acquired by Wollina—a Patrolian[1] criminal syndicate leader[2]—for his zoo Wild Wollina's Animal Adventures on[1] the Outer Rim planet[4] Hon-Tallos as part of an agreement he had with the Shani bounty hunter Deva Lompop that prohibited Wollina from breeding Nussi. Eventually, in order to maintain the costs of his zoo—which he claimed were a lot—the Patrolian broke his agreement with Lompop and began to breed Nussi.[1] Around 3 ABY,[3] Lompop discovered Wollina's actions, and as[1] she[2] hated rancor breeding, she planned to liberate Nussi from him. To do so, she enlisted the help of the human[1] smuggler[5] Sana Starros and members of the Genetian Collective syndicate, who themselves planned to liberate the entire zoo.[1]

After arriving at the zoo, Lompop and Starros made their way to its breeding pens. When they got there, the Shani had the human pour juvenile rancor urine over herself to make Nussi believe she was her cub. While initially against the idea, Starros ultimately agreed and poured it over herself. When Lompop opened the rancor's gate, she roared and walked forward toward the human, who she smelled; after determining she was her cub, Nussi licked Starros' face, which the human found gross. Starros noted that Lompop had not covered herself in urine and asked why the rancor was not eating her, to which the Shani responded that rancors could recognize a predator. The human then climbed onto the rancor's back just as Wollina arrived to stop them, with the latter telling Lompop that she could not take Nussi. The Shani countered by stating that because he had bred the rancor their contract was void and instructed Starros to take Nussi to the zoo's exit while she dealt with the Patrolian.[1]

As Starros and Nussi headed for the exit, they were chased by the human Marl Jibs on a speeder bike. Remembering that she was on a rancor, Starros then turned Nussi to attack Jibs, knocking him off the speeder before the pair then departed. When they arrived, Starros climbed off and asked Lompop, who had dealt with Wollina, what was to happen with the rancor. In response, the Shani stated that she had a ride for Nussi. Starros thanked Nussi by touching her nose, and the rancor made her way into a cage.[1]

Personality and traits

"Wait, you aren't doused with urine. Why isn't she eating you?"
"Rancors can recognize a predator."
―Sana Starros and Deva Lompop[1]

Nussi had brown skin and orange eyes. According to Deva Lompop, rancors like Nussi could recognize predators and therefore did not attempt to eat the Shani despite her not being covered in rancor urine.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 The events of Star Wars: Sana Starros take place between those of issue 31 and issue 38 of the 2020 Star Wars: Doctor Aphra comic-book series. Issue 31 is also set after Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 3 ABY, while issue 38 is a part of the Star Wars: Dark Droids crossover event, which is followed by the events of issue 43 of the 2020 Star Wars series. Furthermore, the flashbacks of issue 50 of the Star Wars series—which follow the events of issue 43—take place approximately twenty-two years after Sheev Palpatine's ascension to the title of Galactic Emperor. Since Timelines dates that event to 19 BBY, the flashbacks must occur around 3 ABY and the events of Sana Starros must therefore also take place around the latter year.
