For other uses, see null.

A null quantum field generator was the component of a starship which opened a hyperspace tunnel for the vessel when it jumped to lightspeed.[1] First Sergeant Hazram Namir of the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry could not tell the difference between the generators and acceleration compensators, considering such ability a speciality of the naval officers aboard the 61st's CR90 corvette the Thunderstrike[2] in 3 ABY.[3] When the MC85 Star Cruiser Raddus jumped to lightspeed in a collision course with the Mega-class Star Dreadnought Supremacy[1] in 34 ABY,[4] the Raddus's null quantum field generator was only able to briefly open a hyperspace tunnel before the cruiser collided with its target.[1]

Behind the scenes

The null quantum field generator was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, written by Alexander Freed.[2] It then appeared in the novelization of[1] Rian Johnson's 2017 film[5] Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, written by Jason Fry and published in 2018.[1] In Star Wars Legends continuity, it originated in the 2002 young readers novel Boba Fett: Crossfire, written by Terry Bisson as part of a series of young readers books known as Boba Fett.[6]
