"New Heroes for the Galaxy" is a short story written by Calliope Glass with illustrations by Katie Cook that was published in the young readers book Star Wars Galactic Storybook released January 6, 2021. It adapts Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.
Plot summary
Right after meeting, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 were chased from Jakku as they were carrying the Map to Skywalker. They escape in the Millennium Falcon and met Han Solo and Chewbacca, and then went to Maz Kanata for help. The Resistance then goes to fight Starkiller Base. After dueling Kylo Ren, Rey realizes she needs a teacher, and follows the map to Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To. Initially, Skywalker refused to train her, but she convinced him. Rey then abandoned the training to save Kylo Ren from the Dark side of the Force. Ren refuses her offer. Meanwhile, the Resistance were forced to seek shelter on Crait against the First Order army. They were rescued by a Force projection of Skywalker, allowing Rey to help free them to live to fight another day.
Continuity
The story states that Ren rescued Rey during the confrontation aboard the Supremacy, omitting the struggle against Snoke.
